Any of these women who agree to donate their eggs to couples, which have problems with conceiving their own children, are truly considered to be very special people. They gift infertile couples possibly the last chance to become parents and build a family they have been dreaming about for years. These women are even more special because not just any person can become a donor, more an egg donor. While there are a lot of women, who would be able to donate their eggs from the physical point of view, as far not every woman possesses all the qualities necessary to become a suitable egg donor.
Generally, the list of characteristics a woman, who is the potential egg donor, varies from one country to another, from one fertility clinic to another. However, in most cases the potential donor is to be between the ages of 21 up to 35 years old. Buy it should also be noted that the age of a potential egg donor, along with other qualities and factors, is to be considered on a case-by-case basis. There are fertility clinics and / or specialists, who wish to cooperate only if the donors are in their late 20s, the reason of this is that it is believed that the older the woman is, the higher level of maturity she reached, moreover, these age women are considered to be more capable to make the commitment, which is necessary during the whole egg donation process, from the emotional point of view. Age 35 is considered to be some kind of the cut – off point for an egg donor; however, it is not mandatory. There exists some commonly – applied guideline because the fertility of a woman and the quality of her eggs has a tendency to begin a decline around this age. Moreover, it is also possible to consider women, over the age of 35, which are the recipients (like someone’s sister, cousin, niece, friend, etc). If so, both the egg donors, as well as the surrogate parents are to be aware that the odds of having a so – called “take home baby” decrease with the higher donor’s age. There are also some clinics as well as fertility centers, in which it is required a potential egg donor to have at least one child of her own.
However, the physical health of the perspective egg donor is considered to be much more important than age of the woman and even the presence of children. Women, who either suffer from or have a history of cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, some genetic problems, etc, are not allowed to donate their eggs. Still, in case if some of the prospective donor’s immediate family members, like her parents, sister or brother, grandparents or any other relatives suffer from any of the above mentioned diseases, this woman may be an acceptable donor under some certain conditions, and if these illnesses will be proved to be disclosed to prospective recipients. It is possible that some couples of potential intended parents may not care about the fact the their egg donor’s family has a history of some heart disease or of any other kind of health problem, while others would not agree to use their eggs because of some possible similar family history, and in this case the chances of their future baby to be suffering from one or more of these conditions, would be much more increased.
