Being the original form of surrogacy traditional surrogacy assumes that the surrogate mother is artificially inseminated with the sperm of the intended father or a sperm donor. This procedure is not usually recommended; but it is sometimes used when the wife is unable to produce her own eggs or to carry a child. When the baby is born, the surrogate mother abandons her parental right and if the intended parent has a partner, then he or she carries on the documentation of a step-parent adoption.
The traditional surrogacy is considered to be the easiest way concerning medical and legal issues, that’s why many intended parents and surrogate mothers are attracted to this form of surrogacy. In this form of surrogacy the surrogate mother requests more money than in gestational one but nevertheless it is cheaper because it doesn’t include complex medical therapy, and all that is needed is a sperm analysis, medical screening of both parties and an artificial insemination which may even be done at home using a needless syringe.
It is much more difficult to find a surrogate mother for traditional surrogacy than for gestational one because now not only her time frame, location, personality and surrogacy expectations matter, it’s very important to find a mother with high genetic qualities and usually the intended parents are seeking the healthiest traditional surrogate they can find. Far fewer women want to become a traditional surrogate rather than gestational. The reason is the psychological problems related to being the baby’s genetical mother. Some surrogates think that they can manage solving this problem but it’s often hard for them to get support from their friends and family.
The advantage of this surrogacy option is that because the surrogate is synthetically inseminated with the husband's sperm, the baby is the husband's biological offspring. Costs are diminished because the costly fertility medications and in vitro fertilization procedures are not necessary.
The surrogate mother may have some legal advantages if she decides to keep the baby and a small quantity of women volunteering in surrogacy agree to become traditional surrogates. It will be much easier for the intended parents to find a gestational carrier rather than a traditional one.
